I thought I would give you an update on Cherry (purple from Bri's first littler). She is an absolute angel that charms everyone and is up for anything. She is a small girl that just reached 60lbs at 12 months and though the vet expects her to fill out a little in the next year they don't expect her to get much bigger. Her colors have not changed since our last update and she's still a beautiful black and silver girl. She has an extremely thick soft coat. She appears more black when her coat is long but when she gets a haircut it looks more silver then grows out black again. I'll attach some before and after haircut pictures. She gets a lot of compliments on how incredibly soft she is. Her favorite things are the dog park, walks, making friends, and cuddles. Cherry is very intelligent and adaptable. She is the best advertisement that you could hope for. I have lost count of how many times people have asked me for her breeder's information. Including our vet!
Since our last update Cherry has traveled and had a lot of new experiences. We spent Thanksgiving in Louisville, Kentucky where she made plenty of new dog, people, and horse friends. In December Cherry got to experience her first snow and loved it. Her and my daughter played outside until they were both exhausted and soaking wet. At Christmas Cherry had a blast opening her presents and playing with her new toys. Just like you would imagine a kid at Christmas. Her favorite was a giant gingerbread man! We traveled to Iowa to visit family and she got to play with her dog cousins, Loki, Luna, Max, and Penny. She was unbelievably gentle with the 6lb Max and 12lb Penny. In January Cherry had her spay and gastropexy done. Our vet said she was a saint. They said after I dropped her off she just went and laid out of the way and watched them work quietly until they were ready for her. They said they never had a dog behave so well let alone a 10 month old puppy. She had a rough few first days as we found out that she reacts badly to the sedation pills, Trazadone. Luckily she is such a calm girl so she was able to make it through the next two weeks with no sedation just fine. Cherry loves the dog park and we go 3-4 days per week. Her best friends there are Rusty and Chase. We play dates with them when the dog park is closed for the weather. She occasionally goes to doggy daycare when I have contractors at the house. Cherry had a great birthday unwrapping presents, eating her doggy birthday cake, and being the center of attention. We took Cherry with us on a weeklong vacation in Florida last week. She had a great time digging in the sand, swimming, and 'saving' us in the water. She would follow my daughter around in the water until she grabbed her harness and then pull her back in. If she was fetching the ball she would get her first, then swim to the ball and bring them both back to shore. When I went in she would grab the lead I was holding and pull me back in.
We are excited for Easter. I taught Cherry how to hunt for eggs and now its one of her favorite games. She can pick up any new trick or game in about 2 minutes. My daughter even taught her how to play Floor is Lava. It is very cute to watch them hop on chairs and floor mats together until you have a dog walking across your bar stools or balancing on the back of your couch. Cherry is very obedient and well-behaved. She can be pretty sassy sometimes and likes to steal our daughter's toys to get her to play but is never naughty. She never has to be told no twice. The only game she's bad at is hide and go seek. Her nose can't find a hog dog on a tile floor. She would make a great therapy dog or even lifeguard but I think search and rescue is a career she can rule out.
I apologize for the long email but we all love Cherry so much and can't tell you enough how great she is and how thankful we are to have her as a part of our family. I've attached some pictures. We are curious if you've had any updates on any of the other puppies in her litter and how they are doing.
